Parental Education:

In August 2011, an intensive program based on the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre's (HDC) Learning Through Play (LTP) workshops materials and Parent Group Leader's Guide was organized for the health professionals of the Aga Khan Health Service (AKHS) Chitral. These health professionals are based in the Aga Khan Health centers in remote villages of Chitral, primarily responsible for mother and child care. The EEEI's Canadian volunteer consultant conducted these workshops.

Workshop leads who have been trained at the EEEI continue holding series of workshops for parents using the LTP materials. So far 422 young parents in different villages, mostly mothers, have benefited from the program. The last program for 2012 concluded in Novemeber, which was sponsored by the Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP).

The LTP program is an intervention program for infants, chidren and their parents. The HDC's International Department has been very supportive of the EEEI's initiatives and, through a Letter of Understanding, has granted it permission to use, translate and print the LTP materials. Its 2 pictorial calendars (from 0 to 3 years and from 3 to 6 years) that depict the successive stages of child development along with brief descriptions of simple play activities portraying parents/caregivers what they can do to promote healthy child development.
